Shim Miso iPad Minhwa Artist
Introduction
My name is Sim Miso, and I’m an iPad minhwa artist.
I reinterpret traditional Korean minhwa using the iPad and teach classes to make minhwa more accessible and familiar to everyone.
I was originally a designer, but I became deeply drawn to the vivid colors and free expression of minhwa, which led me to start this work seriously.
Even in our fast-changing modern times, I want to show that we can still share the beauty and charm of our traditions through both my artwork and teaching.
Highlight
Instructor and founder of "iPad Minhwa"
Graduate of Hongik University
Certified Minhwa Instructor
Excellence Award, Tongil Master Grand Art Contest
What to expect while doing this

In my iPad minhwa classes, students range from their 20s to their 60s. Especially for those in their 50s and 60s, they may hesitate at first because they’re not used to using digital tools.
But once they start the class, they quickly enjoy it and often say, “I didn’t know this kind of world existed!” Every time I witness that moment, I feel touched. I deeply respect their courage to try something new regardless of age. More than anything, I feel happy to see students gain confidence and joy through the class—and to share that with them closely.
Interview
Q. What are some of your most memorable places and experiences in nature in Korea?

As I continued painting minhwa, I started to naturally visit local temples during my travels.
Among them, the most memorable place was Hyuhyuam Temple in Yangyang.
Inside its cave-style sanctuary, the impressive murals and statues create a powerful atmosphere.
When you step outside, you see a grand statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva holding scriptures under the open sky.
And below it, a clear beach with transparent waters spreads out before you.
It was an unforgettable experience—feeling the beauty of nature and the spirit of the temple at once.
Q. What does nature mean to you?

Nature gives me clarity. Even when I feel tired or lost, nature never rushes or scolds me. It quietly shows its true self, and through that stillness, I find my own answers and realizations. Nature has a way of gently leading me to reflect and grow.
Q. What do you want people to take away from the experience and healing you provide?

Through my paintings, I hope people receive “good fortune”—that is, a positive and happy energy.
Whether someone sees my artwork in the morning to start their day, or in the evening to end it, I hope it brings them peace and joy. At Solhyangjae, I invite you to feel the colorful beauty of minhwa through my work. I also hope you’ll experience how this modern interpretation of minhwa can be enjoyed easily in everyday life.
