Kim Lagel
Violinist
Introduction
I'm Kim La-gel, a violinist and the representative of Stepstone Ensemble, also known as 'SeuSeu'. I founded Stepstone Ensemble to help spread the enjoyment of culture in our daily lives and also to provide more diverse performance opportunities for artists. When looking for team members to join me on this journey, what I prioritized even more than professional skills was the artist's attitude and mindset.
Regardless of the size of the performance or the audience's musical knowledge, we cherish the precious steps taken to listen to our music and give our best performance on every stage. The Stepstone team members I'm working with now are artists who approach it with that attitude.

What to expect while doing this
Once, the Stepstone team went to perform at a nursing home. Seeing the elderly residents and caregivers come out one by one to dance and enjoy the music, we also had such a fun and exciting performance. Like this, when we perform, there are many times when we actually receive more energy. The healing that music provides, the communication through music, the empathy of emotions... its power seems truly immense.
Interview
Q. What are some of your most memorable places and experiences in nature in Korea?

I recall a memory from the autumn of 2016, when I went to Naejangsan, famous for its beautiful autumn foliage, with my parents. My parents and I admired the mountain painted in various vibrant colors, with not a single leaf the same hue, and were filled with awe. No matter where it is, when I gaze upon nature's vast landscape, I feel nothing but a profound sense of reverence.
Q. What does nature mean to you?
Sometimes there are pieces of music that are like "a painting." French music, in particular, is often like that. When performing, to bring the emotions to life, I sometimes think of paintings by French artists, but I also connect the music to a scene from nature that I have experienced firsthand, feeling the temperature on my skin and seeing it with my own eyes.
Q. What do you want people to take away from the experience and healing you provide?
"You have an energy that makes others feel so good. Sometimes we don't know what we have, but just our existence is a gift to someone. You are that kind of person to your child." This is a message from someone that made me cry when my self-esteem was at an all-time low.
If I truly have that kind of energy, I want to infuse that power into my performances and the concerts I plan, and share this energy with many people who need musical healing. And with that power as my driving force, I hope to lead the team's growth, so that Stepstone can serve as a stepping stone for our precious team members as artists.
