Lee Hyogwon

Flutist

Introduction

Hello, I am flutist Lee Hyogwon, active in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions. I currently serve as the associate principal flutist of the KNN Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and communicate with audiences through music with Les Bois Ensemble and Clef Ensemble.

In addition to my active performing career, I operate 'Lee Hyogwon Flute Studio' in Yangsan Jeungsan and lecture at Busan Arts Middle and High School, dedicating myself to fostering future generations of musicians. I feel the greatest reward when my students show musical growth and achieve good results. Beyond lesson time, every moment spent with the children is precious and happy, which makes teaching itself a great charm to me.

My Feelings About This Work

I feel most intensely alive when I perform. Seeing audience members moved and delighted by my music brings me immeasurable satisfaction. Interview

Q. What is your most memorable place and experience in nature in Korea?

Perhaps because my parents often took me on nature-filled trips since childhood, I still feel relaxed and happy when I visit the sea or mountains. Among these places, the most memorable was Seongsan Ilchulbong, which I encountered during a trip to Jeju Island.

When I saw Seongsan Ilchulbong majestically rising from the blue sea, I felt an inexpressible sense of liberation. And at that moment, I thought that someday, I definitely wanted to perform a flute concert there.

Q. What does nature mean to you?

To me, nature is an invaluable presence and an incomparable sanctuary. Even when I perform, I always wish to produce sounds that resemble nature, constantly feeling and learning from its inherent beauty and naturalness to incorporate into my playing. In this way, nature is like a teacher who always grants me deep inspiration.

Q. What do you hope people feel from your performance?

I always hope that through my performance, people's minds and bodies become serenely relaxed, and that they feel a profound sense of liberation beyond just relaxation. My goal is to deliver a natural感动 (emotional impression) that washes over them, following that feeling of liberation.
