[Seoul]A health bookstore in a 70-year-old Hanok

Ililhoil

In the spring of 2025, Greenear has prepared a time to take care of your body and mind with Ililhoil, the only health bookstore in Korea.

A space to share healthy stories from everyday life

A bookstore that conveys the value of health

The only health bookstore in Korea where the value of health is exchanged in everyday life,  Ililhoil is a bookstore for everyone that was renovated over several months from the only hanok house on Seochon Jahamun-daero.

The atrium was utilized to allow people to read books, drink coffee, and look at the blue sky, and the bookshelf was placed in the center of the hanok space. It has been selected as a Seoul-style bookstore for the third year in a row, and various book talks and cultural events related to books are held.

A Hanok with 70 years of history

In the spring of 2020, the team that runs Ililhoil  looked around for various spaces where they could run a health bookstore. And they decided to set up shop in Seochon, which somehow felt warm.

After looking at many nice and good buildings in the neighborhood, they chose a small hanok that had been around for 66 years at the time in 2020.

This hanok was a house that had been around for a long time, and it had a special history of a family. The owner of the house even drew a map and talked about the history of the neighborhood and the house for hours. I could feel his deep affection for the village and the house until the end.

“My house was called the Jujube Tree House in Seochon. Before we planted the persimmon tree, there was a big jujube tree. In front of the house, there was a stream that flowed into Cheonggyecheon, and a bus ran around the Blue House. 20 years ago, on the day of the planting, I bought and planted a persimmon tree myself, and it has grown to that size now. The house next door and behind it was the house where a famous announcer and lawyer lived.”

Health Bookstore Ililhoil

The current health bookstore, Ililhoil, is a healing space in Seochon where people come and go.

In order to create a place where people can read books, talk with friends, and realize the precious value of ‘Today is a happy healthy day,’ we clean up the Hanok every day, curate health books, and prepare drinks and desserts made with good ingredients.

In spring, yellow tulips grow in the yard, in summer, roses bloom on the fence, in fall, persimmon trees bear delicious persimmons, and in winter, snow covers the bamboo.
