Late Joseon Dynasty and Folk Painting in Seoul
In the late Joseon Dynasty in Korea, literature and art underwent major changes in a rapidly changing world. This was due to the diversification of industrial activities, vigorous economic activity, and the emancipation of the slaves. Folk paintings, which depicted the Korean mountain streams, became a cultural activity to voice critical opinions about society. Representative Korean folk painters, Danwon Kim Heung-do and Hyewon Shin Yun-bok, were also active in Seoul and Gyeonggi.
Especially in the 18th and 19th centuries, Sogwado (蔬果圖) developed in various forms. During this period, folk paintings had the power of art to reflect the reality of society while also capturing the hopes and dreams of individuals. We wanted to give people today, who are living with passion in the hot summer, a meaningful time with a brush that captures their own wishes.
With studio Hwayeon

So, together with a folklore artist, we chose a summer-inspired Sogwado as a theme. Peaches symbolize longevity, watermelon is a great gift for parents, watermelon symbolizes fertility, and fresh pacho symbolizes wealth, so it's a great gift for yourself or anyone you wish well.
we're so excited to be a part of your journey to find peace of mind by drawing a folk tale of your own or someone else's wishes. We hope that it's more than just a time to draw, but a time to express your own hopes, dreams, and passions from the depths of your heart.
