Korea and Gayageum

During the Joseon Dynasty, music was an integral cultural activity for the royal family, courtiers, and the people alike, especially in the Seoul area, where the royal family and courtiers gathered for annual events. The gayageum, which played an important role in both folk and court music, is a uniquely Korean instrument made from paulownia wood and silk thread.
The delicate, clear sound of the gayageum is carried by the wind, one with nature, and warms the space. The delicate and soft tones of this traditional instrument are sure to touch the listener's heart, and just as the Joseon Dynasty scholars enjoyed the flow of nature, Greenear wanted to share and enjoy the sound of the gayageum in the tranquil atmosphere of a hanok all together.
With a Gayageum Artist

In particular, we wanted to capture the sounds of nature through the clear, serene melodies of the gayageum, a traditional Korean instrument that comes straight from nature. We wanted the melody of the gayageum, which resonates in the quiet space of a hanok, to touch everyone's hearts like a breath of nature carried by the wind.
We also played “Pine Tree,” a song that expresses the desire to protect pine trees that are dying due to pollution. The lyrical tones of the gayageum conveyed a sincere wish for nature. We hoped that the gayageum concert would be a chance to remember and wish for a time when we lived closer and warmer with nature.
