Busan Seomyeon • Kyobo Bookstore Busan Branch • Classical Concert

During the Korean War,
many people came down to Busan as refugees,
and among them were artists.
They settled in Gwangbok-dong and
continued their artistic endeavors.
In the 1950s and 1960s,
Nampo-dong became a central hub for the arts,
where artistic passion truly bloomed.
To shed light on Busan's artistic history
and revive the sentiment of that era,
we have partnered with Kyobo Bookstore,
today's treasure trove of knowledge,
to present a classical concert that graces the night sky.

Episode #1 Artists

Kim - Lagel
I am Kim La-Gel, a violinist and the representative of Stepstone Ensemble. I completed my high school education in Russia and graduated from a music university in Austria.
I founded Stepstone Ensemble to help spread the enjoyment of culture in our daily lives, and also to provide more diverse performance opportunities for artists.
After returning to Korea, I was active in orchestras and taught students. Since last year, I have been focusing on developing Stepstone Ensemble.

" The healing that music provides, the communication through music, the empathy of emotions... its power seems truly immense. "

Kim - Sojung
I work as a performer in various music ensembles and also teach students as an instructor in educational settings. Through teaching students, I believe it is important to acknowledge, understand, and respect our differences. Through my performances, I meet people from many different countries and connect with audiences of various ages, from children to adults.
Experiencing moments where we become one through music, despite different languages, brings me joy, and I am happy to share that happiness with many people.

"Experiencing moments where we become one through music brings me joy,
and I am happy to share that happiness with many people."

Shin - Seungyeob
I started playing the cello as a hobby in my childhood and continued consistently until I decided to major in it. I believe that connecting with the audience and being a performer who offers a deep emotional impression through music is an important mission for a musician.
I hope that through my music, the audience can find healing for their difficult day, and if they are going through a tough time, that I can be someone they can lean on, even if just for a moment, forgetting their hard memories.

"While performing, when the audience responds positively,
I feel a sense of exhilaration that is truly inexpressible."

Kim -Hayoung
Ever since I first encountered the violin through a school program in Australia during my childhood, I've cherished this connection with music and continue to strive to broaden my musical activities to this day. They say music holds the power of empathy and healing, but for the performer tasked with conveying it, this can sometimes feel like a significant burden and source of stress. Nevertheless, the sense of accomplishment when I succeed in that role is a feeling so deep and overwhelming, it cannot be fully put into words. For me, music is therefore a truly cherished yet demanding bond – a relationship of both deep affection and hardship.
While I sometimes step away from music to briefly enjoy nature or travel, I eventually realize that the place my heart truly wants to return to is always music.

" If someone can feel even a moment of comfort and happiness through my music,
I believe that in itself is truly meaningful. "
Episode #2 Space
A Space Where Anyone Can Touch and Read Books
Guided by the founder's philosophy, "People make books, and books make people," Kyobo Bookstore Busan Branch welcomes everyone into a multi-level space surrounded by rich, dark brown wooden bookshelves. Step into the high-ceilinged first floor, and from the moment you enter, the World Literature Collection series flows along the wall shelves.
Literature and art books beautifully fill the shelves. Through the large panoramic window, the outside world becomes a stunning frame: on rainy days, it's the bustling rainy street, and on clear days, it's the vibrant, bright sky.
Episode #3 Stepstone
String Quartet Ensemble
Stepstone Ensemble is a deeply expressive string quartet that aims for a life where anyone can enjoy culture and art. The musicians of the Stepstone team have accumulated extensive musical experience by studying at leading educational institutions in Korea and abroad, and by performing on diverse international stages and major domestic venues. This rich background serves as the foundation for the team's excellent performance skills.
Based on a deep understanding of music and passionate enthusiasm, they offer performances that sincerely communicate with each and every audience member through their instruments. With delicate yet powerful melodies, they seek to fill the space and convey a deep resonance to the listener's heart.
