The Floral Letter Paintings combine auspicious Chinese characters with symbolic flowers and fruits to express heartfelt blessings. The character "Hee" (喜) represents joy and harmony, while "Su" (壽) symbolizes health and longevity. This painting derives its meaning from a Korean wordplay: the word for vase (byeong, 甁) shares a similar pronunciation with the first syllable of the word for peace (pyeong, 平安). As a result, the vase has long symbolized peace and tranquility within the home. The flowers arranged in the vase further enrich the painting with additional blessings, each carrying its own auspicious meaning.
