Introduction
Hello, I am violinist Kim Ki-nam. I actively balance my musical career between solo and chamber music performances. I find profound value and happiness in life by communicating and sharing meaningful moments with people through the power of music.
Highlights
I began playing the violin in early childhood and nurtured my dream of becoming a professional musician after performing as a soloist with an orchestra during elementary school. While attending Sunhwa Arts High School, I won the Gold Prize at the school's chamber music competition, which significantly deepened my passion for ensembles.
Later, I entered the College of Music at Chung-Ang University at the top of my class and successfully completed my degree. Throughout my university years, my strong interest in chamber music led me to form and perform in various ensemble configurations, and I continuously pursued orchestral activities after graduation. Following my marriage, I relocated to Daejeon, where I now perform as a violinist for Neo Strings. Captivated by the distinct charm of string quartet-based ensembles, I founded the L’amitié Trio and currently lead it as its director, dedicating my efforts to bringing classical music closer to the public and creating stages where we can breathe and connect together with the audience.
Reflections on My Work
I am constantly amazed and inspired by how the delicate, rich tones of string instruments can express such a vast spectrum of human emotions. In particular, when performing in an ensemble, creating a rich, multi-layered sound through harmony with other instruments brings a unique kind of moving experience that is beautifully different from a solo performance. I feel the greatest sense of fulfillment when I connect deeply with the audience from the stage to collectively complete a performance.

Q. What is your most memorable place and experience in Korea’s nature?
The place that stays most vividly in my memory is Hallasan Mountain. I love how the mountain offers a completely different atmosphere with each passing season. Although the journey to the top is physically demanding, the scenery beheld from the summit remains etched in my mind with crystal clarity. To me, a being so small in the presence of the vast wilderness, Hallasan is a place that always imparts fresh inspiration and renewed energy.
Q. What does nature mean to you?
Nature is a presence that restores balance to my life. It is the ultimate source of inspiration and the vital energy that drives my musical practice. I believe the innate harmony and balance found in nature closely mirror the organic process of chamber music, where musicians must deeply listen to one another’s sounds to blend into perfect unison.
Q. What is the driving force that keeps you making music?
Feeling the genuine connection and heartfelt responses from the audience after a performance gives me an immense sense of pride and fulfillment as a performing artist.
Q. What do you hope people feel when they listen to your performance?
I hope that for a moment, guests can forget the bustling fatigue and routine hardships of daily life, taking away a sense of comfort and warmth. I would be incredibly happy if our music allows them to experience true beauty and share a genuinely joyful time.
