Introduction

I'm Kim Jisun, an artist who runs the Scented Painting Studio Corner, where I help people discover and express their "own story" through scent and painting.

I believe that scent and painting are very similar to each other, and the way we look at a piece of artwork and recall memories, memories, and stories is similar to the 'Proustian effect', which is associated with the memories that come to mind when we smell a certain scent, which is why I opened the scented painting workshop.

I offer an experience of painting and scent through a variety of classes and products to make painting approachable and fun rather than intimidating. Create your own story in a scented space.

What to expect while doing this

I think a lot of people associate art with difficulty, but I want it to be fun, interesting and enjoyable. I want it to be a friendly hobby that's accessible to everyone. Most of the people who come to my classes are people who don't feel like they're good at it. They struggle at first, but over time they gain confidence as they see their skills improve, and then they say things like,

"I don't know when I've had this much time to myself. "I don't know the last time I took time for myself like this." "I didn't realize drawing could be so much fun." "I feel so proud every time I finish one."

Whenever I hear stories like that, and when I see people healing and enjoying themselves through my paintings, it makes me feel like I'm so glad I chose this career. If I can share happiness through my paintings and fragrances, and share in that joy, that's the most meaningful thing for me.

Interview

Q. What are some of your most memorable places and experiences in nature in Korea?

The most memorable place for me is the bamboo forest, which is why my artwork always features bamboo. I still remember my first visit to the bamboo forest when I was a kid on a trip with my parents. I can't forget the cool sounds that echoed through the forest, the bamboo trunks stretching high into the sky, and the clear, vivid green color reflected in the sunlight. The sense of comfort and calm that I felt there is deeply etched in my mind.

Q.  What does nature mean to you?

For me, nature is a source of rest and inspiration. It's like a warm embrace, always ready to wrap itself around my heart and give me new energy in the midst of a tiring day.

The green color of the forest, the whisper of the wind, and the rhythm of the waves speak to me like a special language, and it is in this environment that I take a second look at myself and create another story, expressing the emotions and landscapes I feel at that moment in my work.

Nature is a bridge between me and my work, a grateful friend who keeps me centered in life.

Q. What do you want people to take away from the experience and healing you provide?

Beyond simply learning to paint, we want you to experience healing and joy through your own time. Through the process of painting the zodiac in Korean coloring for the new year, we hope that the relaxation of picking up a paintbrush and immersing yourself in the moment and the sense of accomplishment that comes from the finished product will bring you a sense of calmness and confidence. We also hope that the theme of the zodiac will inspire you to make new wishes for the new year and give you new energy. We hope that this painting course will be a warm and meaningful start to the year.
