Jang Ahrum
Violinist
Introduction

I am the assistant principal first violin of the Changwon City Symphony Orchestra.
I started working right out of college, got married earlier than most of my friends, went to graduate school after having kids because I didn't want to settle, and I still play in a lot of organizations, practice a lot, and keep pushing myself.
The idea of "don't be half-assed, do the best you can with the time you have" is as true today as it was then. I tell my students to do their best, even when they're playing.

What to expect while doing this

I started playing the violin because I love music, but there were many tears shed during the process of practicing until I was on stage. However, I overcame that long time and am still enjoying my music life because I am addicted to the applause I receive from audiences who listen to my music on stage.
If there are people who are healed or fulfilled by listening to my music, even for a moment or just a few minutes, I will continue to work harder.
Interview
Q. What are some of your most memorable places and experiences in nature in Korea?

I love the ocean. When I'm practicing or working a lot, it's so relaxing to see the ocean, even if it's just for a little while. But as I've gotten older, I've also started to appreciate the quiet and tranquility of the mountains.
A few years ago, I had a great opportunity to hike to the top of Mount Jiri Nogodan with my music colleagues. I can't describe the feeling I had when I put the chains on my shoes and touched the snowy summit of Mount Jiri.
At that summit, with its expansive view, I let go of everything that was hurting me, everything that was hard and exhausting.
Q. What does nature mean to you?

For me, nature is like a friend who waits for me without saying a word.
The waves are always calmly lapping at the same place, flowers are blooming and fruits are bearing, as if they have been waiting for modern people who are busy living. It is like a friend who always comes and talks to you, "sees and feels, heals and goes."
Q. What do you want people to take away from the experience and healing you provide?

I hope that when you listen to my music, you can cry when you feel like, laugh out loud when you feel like, and just be yourself.
In my social life, I have to be considerate of others and I can't say everything that's on my mind, but when I listen to music, I want to be as honest as a child.
